Program Overview
Lillian’s Children Centre is an Emergent Curriculum based childcare. We believe children learn through “hands on experiences”. The staff and program are designed to motivate children to discover how things work and explore new concepts based on their backgrounds, interests, and level of development. The teachers will listen and interact with children to guide and facilitate their learning and development. Emergent curriculum is not implemented, it is cultivated; and with the staff, the environment, and the relationship with the families the program will enhance the child’s physical, social, emotional and cognitive development.
Program outlines of creative, science, dramatic play and sensory/manipulative activities will follow an emergent based curriculum philosophy and will be posted in the classrooms each week. Programs of the centre are evaluated regularly; any changes in the Child Care and Early Years Act or new theories in Early Childhood Education are implemented.
Learning stories will be used by teachers to communicate to parents and visitors by documenting the ongoing learning that is happening on a particular topic. The teachers may continue a topic and expand on it, as long as the children as still interested adding more learning stories as their understanding is expanding or teachers can create unrelated learning stories if a new topic or interest arises.
Menu
At Lillian's Children Centre, we believe that healthy eating is an important part of every child's growth and development. Our cook prepares fresh, nutritious meals and snacks each day in accordance with Canada's Food Guide, Ontario Ministry of Education regulations, and Safe Healthy Children guidelines.
Our menus are carefully planned to ensure children receive the nutrition they need to learn, play, and thrive.
Food Allergies & Special Diets
The health and safety of every child is our top priority. Parents are asked to inform us of any food allergies or dietary restrictions before their child begins attending the centre.
-
All allergies are clearly posted in the kitchen, dining areas, and classrooms.
-
Our cook is informed of every child's allergies and prepares meals accordingly.
-
If your child requires a special diet, please provide written instructions along with any labelled food that needs to be brought from home. All food is stored safely and appropriately in our kitchen.
Please note: Lillian's Children Centre is a peanut and tree nut-free facility. To help keep all children safe, we ask that families do not bring food containing nuts. We also ask that children do not bring gum or candy to the centre.
Learning Environment
At Lillian's Children Centre, we are committed to creating a welcoming, inclusive environment where every child and family feels respected, valued, and a true sense of belonging. We celebrate the unique cultures, traditions, languages, abilities, and family structures that make our community special.
Our classrooms are thoughtfully designed to reflect the diversity of the children and families we serve. Through books, toys, learning materials, artwork, and dramatic play experiences, children are introduced to a wide variety of cultures, perspectives, and traditions in meaningful and age-appropriate ways. We encourage families to share their customs, celebrations, and experiences with our centre, helping children develop an appreciation for different backgrounds while fostering empathy, respect, and inclusion.
We believe that every child is unique and deserves the opportunity to participate fully in our programs. Our inclusive approach ensures that children with identified special needs are welcomed into all aspects of our daily activities and learning experiences.
We work collaboratively with families and, when appropriate, outside professionals and community agencies to support each child's individual goals and development. Our educators participate in goal-setting and, when needed, case conferences to better understand a child's strengths, needs, and the best ways to support both the child and their family.
Lillian's Children Centre believes that a medical condition should not prevent a child from enjoying a high-quality early learning experience. Whenever possible, we adapt our environment, routines, and programming to ensure children with medical or special healthcare needs can participate safely and confidently alongside their peers. Our team receives the information and training needed to support children with individual medical or developmental needs, and we maintain open communication with families and support agencies to provide consistent, collaborative care. Our goal is to create an environment where every child feels accepted, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential.
